VISS: Road Safety ProjectWeb portal of e-participation and user generated content, business intelligence platform, social management, experimental traffic analysis system
Project VISS (“Vivere Insieme la Sicurezza Stradale”, Living Road Safety Together), funded through the call for tenders “Selection of proposals for the creation of interventions in favour of road safety – 3rd Implementation Programme of the National Road Safety Plan”, published by the “Department of Public Works – General Management of Public Works” of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, had as its main purpose the development of a new Culture of Road Safety that could be shared both by Institutions and by Citizens.
The Project was presented by the Municipality of Quartu S. Elena (lead contractor), with the Municipalities of Maracalagonis and Villasimius, in partnership with the Regional ICT Competence Centre of Sardinia Scarl.
The premise on which the project was developed is based on the consideration that the cause of accidents cannot be attributed to single factors. Actually, research proves that accidents originate in the convergence of many risk factors, such as: traffic laws, effectiveness of control and sanctions, particular conditions of vehicles, conditions external to vehicles and drivers, driving behaviours that influcence driving.
The project was developed following a series of actions that led to the creation of important activities related to the two macro-areas of education and technologic experimentation.
The education area applied actions such as: seminars to raise awareness on road safety in schools, interventions focused on newly licensed drivers, “Train the trainer” information campaigns.
The technologic experimentation area included the foundation of a Web2.0 Portal of e-Participation and User Generated Content, of a Business Intelligence Platform, the creation of a Facebook community and the activation of a Youtube channel, the implementation of an Experimental system for the analysis of traffic on the Provincial Road SP 17 in order to proceed to an important analysis on detected data.
